Reiki with Children
By Carol Bonura
Working with Reiki has allowed all of us to experience joy in our lives. Working with Reiki and children only adds to our joy. Children are born with an innate capability to love and receive love. When a newborn baby experiences Reiki, they immediately sense the love of God and the universe and are still and quiet. When giving Reiki to a child, you feel nothing but pure love flowing out of your hands, even more so than when giving Reiki to an adult. Newborns come into this world crying from the shock of the light and cold. I feel that they also cry from having just left the safety and security of their loved ones in the spirit world, as we cry when a loved one leaves our plane and re-enters the spirit world. When they are born into Reiki hands, they immediately feel the love of God and look around to see where it is coming from. I've resuscitated many newborns in my career as a Nurse Practitioner. When I have an infant that just can't seem to get its breathing started, I turn the Reiki on full blast while I'm breathing for them with the ambu bag. Many times they open their eyes as if to see if they really want to join us on this plane, and then will attempt to start breathing. Toddlers are another joy in themselves. Many times I've been called to the lab or the ER to draw blood on them. When I arrive they are usually crying and want no part of any strangers that are coming to treat them. I usually approach them with a soft steady voice and sent Reiki from my heart chakra directly to their own. It's a blast to watch them feel it and then give you an intense look as if to say, "How are you doing that?". They usually quiet down and just watch me with intense interest. Many times when I draw their blood, they cry, but don't carry on as they were before I got there. When you send Reiki to children, I find that all I want to do while sending is to kiss them. God's pure love is flowing through myself and into the greatest receiver and giver of unconditional love.Older children are very interested in Reiki when you send it to them. They are very curious and can verbalize what they are feeling. Many say they see color or feel heat, but many tell me it feels like when their angels are with them. Children are much more open to the spirit world. As we age we are less in tune because we have been programmed since birth that these things don't really happen, it's just our imagination. Many times when a child tells you they have an imaginary playmate, watch closely, it could very well be their angel or a spirit watching over them. Reiki can be used to help with many things when it comes to children. It can help sooth an irritable toddler, can help a child with ADHD become more focused, it can help ease the pain of an ear infection and it can also ease the anxiety of a depressed teenager. I had a baby I cared for in the intensive care nursery for about three weeks after it was born. He was the product of a traumatic birth after his mother's uterus ruptured during labor and was resuscitated at birth. He required a respirator for a brief time and then respite care while he recuperated. His Mom was very religious and brought in water from Lourdes, mud from Macedonia and oil for blessings. I approached her about Reiki and explained its use. She was very open to trying it on her son. He was still very lethargic since birth and he was now a week old at this time. He was full term and didn't have the strength to suck on a bottle so he had to be tube fed. I gave him one treatment prior to a feeding with his mother present. She then watched while the nurses attempted to feed him as they always did prior to tube feeding him. When the bottle went into his mouth his eyes opened wide and he started sucking on the bottle. As he finished his first full feeding his mother grabbed me and hugged me. She couldn't thank me enough. It was truly a miracle to witness. I attuned my own children after I became a Reiki master. It was such a joy to sit back and watch them use it in their own lives. My son loved to reiki his cat. The cat would purr so loud you could hear him across the room. Anytime someone in the house would turn on their reiki, the cat would come running and want you to use it on him. My daughter especially likes to use it on herself when she'd fall and scrape her knee when falling off her bike. They would even use it on sunburn. The best was when my daughter found a baby bird in the yard. It was dying but she held it and turned on her reiki till it passed because she wanted to comfort it while it died. Reiki is truly a blessing and can create many miracles. Every person, no matter what age, is a powerful spiritual being, capable of allowing the full energetic power of God's love to flow through them to create miracles here on this physical plane that we live in. Wouldn't it be wonderful to watch the word change if we were to attune all of the children on the planet to Reiki. What a truly loving and peaceful planet this would be. Arlington Reiki Associates does not take any responsibility for the content or claims made in the articles of this newsletter. The policy of Arlington Reiki Associates in working with minors is: 1) receive written parental consent to a Reiki treatment and 2) give Reiki treatments to minors with one parent or guardian present. Arlington Reiki Associates does not attune minors under the age of 12, since we believe that young people should be able to give their informed consent to this life-transforming experience. When we attune minors, we require parental consent and, depending on the age of the minor, a parent or guardian to be present in the class. When a small child needs Reiki, we prefer to attune the parent(s) or child care person to Reiki. However, we have heard from a number or Reiki Masters who attuned their small children to Reiki and have seen wonderful results from it, as mentioned in this article. We have heard about remarkable results from the neo-natal intensive care unit nurses and doctors we attuned to Reiki. We have also found that children we attuned to Reiki love giving it to their pets. Giving Reiki treatments to minors is a true honor. I have seen the most touching transformations of “tough on the outside” teenagers melting away under the loving touch of Reiki and excitedly telling their friends about how wonderful a Reiki treatment feels. The world needs Reiki and our future generation needs it especially.
